What is Initial Resistance?

The initial resistance of a HEPA filter refers to the air flow resistance of the newly made filter under the rated air volume.

How to Measure Initial Resistance?

The initial resistance of a HEPA filter can be measured by using a differential pressure gauge or a manometer.

Factors Affecting Initial Resistance

The initial resistance of a HEPA filter depends on several factors, such as the filter material, the filter structure, the filter size, the air volume, and the dust load.


The resistance of the new filter (under the lowest air velocity) is called "initial resistance", and the resistance corresponding to the end of the filter is called "final resistance", and in most cases, the final resistance is the initial resistance, and the rated air volume and its resistance value under the air volume is generally its average value.


The initial resistance of HEPA filter refers to the air flow resistance of the newly made filter under the rated air volume.


Operating at a certain air volume, its circulation resistance increases with the increase in the amount of accumulated dust, generally when the amount of accumulated dust reaches a certain value, the resistance increases faster, then the filter should be replaced or cleaned to ensure that the purification of air-conditioning system for economic operation.


Generally speaking, the initial resistance of HEPA filter is about 150-220PA. HEPA filter resistance is called the initial resistance, corresponding to the resistance value of the filter scrapped is called the final resistance. When designing, a representative resistance value is needed, and this resistance value is called design resistance, and the general method is to take the average value of initial resistance and final resistance. The initial resistance of high-efficiency filter is about 100-220PA, and the final resistance is about 200-450PA.

Sub-high efficiency filter, for ≥0.5 μm particles, filtration efficiency E≥95%, initial resistance ≤120Pa

High-efficiency filter, for ≥0.5 μm particles, filtration efficiency E≥99.99%, initial resistance ≤220Pa

Ultra-high efficiency filter, for ≥0.3 μm particles, filtration efficiency E≥99.999%, initial resistance ≤280Pa
